HTC Exec Promises ‘Huge Surprises’ In 2015

HTC Exec Promises

‘Huge Surprises’ In 2015

We expect to see a lot of interesting new devices and technology in 2015. The new year has already arrived in several countries around the world so now we start counting down the days until we get to see some new stuff. An executive from HTC took to Twitter a while back to raise some hype about the company’s 2015 roadmap, saying that it brings some “huge surprises.”
The executive in question is Jeff Gordon, the senior global online communications manager at HTC. He tweeted today that HTC’s 2015 roadmap is going to be “our best ever,” and that the aforementioned surprises “will blow you away.”

“I can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!,” says Gordon in another tweet, without giving up any hints about the products that the Taiwanese manufacturer will be showing off in 2015.
So there’s no official word as yet about the roadmap. Doesn’t matter, we’ll always have rumors. First off a new Desire handset is expected to be unveiled at CES 2015. Its probably going to be a mid-range device limited to certain markets around the globe.

What many are waiting for is the HTC Hima, the successor to HTC One (M8). Specifications of this smartphone have already leaked online multiple times, even if they’re not accurate, they paint a good picture of what we can expect from the next HTC flagship.

The Sense 7 user interface update from HTC is likely going to arrive around May. It is not bundled with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the company’s devices, this is something that will certainly interest HTC device owners. A whole new look and feel for their devices.

That’s pretty much all that has been rumored for HTC’s 2015 lineup. We’ll just have to wait on the company to make official announcements, and wow us with products that haven’t been rumored yet, if it has any of them up its sleeve that is.

New HTC One M8 Max Leaked Review

New HTC One M8 Max Leaked Review

These specs sound like a smartphone fanatic's dream. The rumor also suggests that the phone is made up of an alloy consisting of aluminum and silicon carbide. Android L will be installed out of the box, with HTC's Sense 6.5 running on top. It appears that the fingerprint sensor that was found on the back of last year's HTC One max, has been scratched by HTC.

The HTC One (M8) max has a lot of competition with the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and LG G3 all offering similar specs. But it might be best for HTC to take on these big guns and hope that the design of the device can carry it through.

HTC One M8 Max

HTC One M8 Max

Although the release time frame of HTC's rumored One M8 Max phablet's is still a mystery, it appears the device is going to be one monster phablet if the latest specs leak is true.

A new report from Chinese website MyDrivers (via BGR) has revealed the purported device for a 5.5-inch 2K display, Snapdragon 805 quad-core 2.7MHz processor, 3GB of RAM, 3,000mAh battery, an 18-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and Android L.

As BGR notes, these specs are very similar to those previously leaked for what was being dubbed the HTC One M8 Prime, which the Taiwanese tech giant reportedly decided to suspend indefinitely earlier this year.

No matter the name it releases with, a device with these specs would surely become a legitimate competitor to the market's current phablet lineup, including Apple's new iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung's Galaxy Note 4.

Trusted leaker @evleaks previously reported that HTC is planning on launching an M9 and M9 Prime in early 2015, with the M9 serving as the direct follow-up to the M8 and the M9 Prime packing the rumored specs improvements tied to the M8 Prime, plus whatever else HTC comes up with.

However, @evleaks does make the interesting claim that the M9 Prime would release before the M9, ExpertReviews notes.

According to the evleaks tweets, the e M9 Prime will be waterproof and designed from an "exotic material: composite of aluminum and liquid silicone," with specs including a high speed Cat. 6 LTE radio, a quad-core Snapdragon 805 SoC clocked at 2.5GHz, a USB 3.0 port, a 5.5-inch QHD resolution screen and 3GB of RAM, BGR reports.

HTC 64-bit Desire 820 smartphone

HTC 64-bit

Desire 820 Smartphone

It was only yesterday when we were invited by HTC to "save the date" for the company's "IFA Breakfast". Rumors have been swirling that HTC will be bringing forth a 64-bit Android smartphone in time for the annual IFA expo in Berlin. Next, we published the story of Qualcomm's leaked product map that shows its mid-range 64-bit processors are almost ready to start rolling off the fab.

The HTC rumor makes even more sense with this revelation into account, and now the company posted a teaser image on Weibo, which shows the digit "820". It's known that the only HTC products with three-digit names are its Desire series of low and mid-tier phones, which leads us to the conclusion that HTC is possibly preparing a Desire 820 phone based on Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 610 or 615 chips.

Looking at the "8" in its name, the Desire 820 might as well go for the octa-core Snapdragon 615, but that's purely speculative. Besides, the latest phone in the series, the Desire 816, has a quad-core CPU. If HTC wants to keep the price down, it will probably go for the quad-core Snapdragon 610.

HTC is known for its pursuit towards being the first to bring cutting-edge technology to its smartphones. After all, this is the company that made the first consumer Android smartphone, launched the first smartphone with a 1080p display, and experimented with UltraPixel cameras to the dismay of some consumers. If there's one company we'd bet on coming up with the first 64-bit Android phone, it's HTC. We'll see what the future holds on September 4th.

Now you’ll be able to pull it down from the notification bar and share it, edit it, or simply view it. It’s just that simple. We've also provided a video above for visual reference.  This method works on virtually all HTC models.

Phunk Limited Edition HTC One M8

Phunk Limited Edition

 HTC One M8

For its latest limited edition handset variant, HTC has teamed with Singapore art collective Phunk Studio to design a dashing take on the One (M8), which was revealed today.

HTC and Phunk worked together to design the smartphone’s revised exterior, with the primary theme of “Wonderment” driving the result. You can catch a glimpse at the creative process of the two parties in the video below.

Phunk Limited Edition HTC One (M8)  Only 64 units were produced, but it doesn’t sound like they’ll be available for purchase (at least not through traditional means). HTC has yet to divulge full details, but some tech publications have mentioned impending giveaways, so that might be your best bet of trying to snag the device.

Phunk’s involvement comes in advance of an exhibition that will stop in Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore, and is taking place during the studio’s 20th year of existence. The group has previously worked with such corporate heavy-hitters as Nike and Levi’s.

According to HTC, the device signals the beginning of its “Here’s to Creativity” campaign for 2014, following last year’s One mini variant from fashion designer David Koma. Perhaps we’ll see even more slick, nearly-impossible-to-get designs before the year’s through.

HTC One M8 for Windows Dot View Case

How Cortana will work with
the Dot View case

HTC is widely expected to introduce an HTC One M8 variant that runs Windows Phone 8.1 at its Aug. 19 event. The full specs for the HTC One M8 for Windows have leaked.

Nokia has long enjoyed being the top Windows Phone maker. Companies like Samsung and HTC, who have fared very well with their Android smartphones, haven't been able to repeat that kind of success with their Windows Phone-based handsets.

HTC is going to attempt to change that and has scheduled a press event on Aug. 19, where it will unveil the HTC One M8 for Windows. The smartphone is expected to be an exclusive for Verizon Wireless and to go on sale shortly after its introduction. As its name implies, the smartphone will run Windows Phone 8.1 in place of Android 4.4. KitKat.

A new report from WP Central reveals the HTC One M8 for Windows' complete spec list and some new information on the smartphone's features. The device is virtually identical to its Android sibling in terms of specs and hardware, including the premium brushed aluminum case that has been a huge hit with consumers and reviewers.

The HTC One M8 for Windows will reportedly include a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Super LCD3 display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi) and run Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box. It will be powered by a 2.3-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and have 2 GB of RAM. The handset will ship with 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128-GB microSD cards.

The camera capabilities of the HTC One M8 for Windows will include an HTC UltraPixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. It will have dual stereo front-facing speakers with HTC BoomSound and pack in a large 2,600 mAh battery.

The report also claims that the HTC Dot View Case for the HTC One M8 will be supported and also have integration with Cortana, the personal assistamt with Windows Phone.

"This case lets you see who's calling, then answer or decline the call without opening it. Just swipe to answer or simply put it to your ear. It also shows you the date, time, weather and reminders. You can also instantly access Cortana by simply swiping down." The display shows through a dot matrix pattern.

Why I ditched the iPhone 5s for an HTC One (M8)

Why I ditched the iPhone 5s for an HTC One (M8)

This review is brought to you by Pocketnow

You might remember that at the launch of the HTC One M8 I wrote an article titled "I was going to switch my iPhone 5s to an HTC One M8, but.." (http://pocketnow.com/2014/03/26/i-was...) and my arguments for avoiding the change were based on the poor camera, its lack of a fingerprint scanner, and the fact that boom sound wasn't everything. Fast forward to today, give me an HTC One M8 for a week and now my iPhone is in a drawer. Since a lot of you asked me why this happened, well watch our video to find out.

HTC One E8 Great Review

HTC One E8

Great Review

Outside of the enhanced new camera, this reviewer feels that the new E8 is lacking the punch that the M8 provides.  HTC's One M8 is among the best-designed phones we've ever seen. It works well, it's powerful, and it's beautiful. Now, in an effort to find a way to make its best phone a little cheaper, HTC is releasing the One E8, a phone with all the trappings of the M8 except for a plastic body and a much lower price tag. The question for HTC: can it change its best phone without changing what makes it special?

HTC One E8 vs HTC One M8

HTC One E8

vs

 HTC One M8

State of the Union

HTC One E8 vs HTC One M8: camera comparison
We likely don't need to tell you that HTC's choice to stick with a 4-megapixel camera for its flagship smartphone has been quite the controversial topic. According to the company, the One M8's larger, 2μmpixels are what makes the M8's camera great, though we never really agreed with them. Indeed, we continue to think that the One M8's camera lags behind all rival smartphones - the Xperia Z2, the Galaxy S5, the LG G3, you name it.

Recently, HTC announced the One E8 -- a near-identical, but plastic version of the One M8 with a different, more-orthodox 13-megapixel camera. We instantly saw an opportunity to put the two to the test in order to see what happens, and that's what we did.

Showdown

Let's talk facts first. The HTC One E8 is equipped with a 13-megapixel, 1/3.06'' sensor with f/2.2 lens and a single LED flash that we found to be fairly impotent. The HTC One M8, on the other hand, goes for a different approach, as already mentioned, and instead makes do with a 4-megapixel "UltraPixel" Duo camera with a 1/3'' sensor, f/2.0 lens, and a two-tone LED flash.

ResolutionSensor sizeApertureFlashFeaturesVideo
HTC One E813MP1/3.06'' 4:3F2.2Single LEDDigital image stabilization, HDR, Panorama, Scenes1920x1080, 30/60 fps, HDR video
HTC One M84MP1/3'' 16:9F2.0Dual tone LEDDigital image stabilization, HDR, Panorama, Scenes, Duo Camera Effects1920x1080, 30/60 fps, HDR video

On the whole, we found that the One E8's camera is superior to that of the One M8, and pretty much across the board. In other words, while the amount of detail that is offered by the E8's higher resolution shooter is undeniable, its superiority extends to color reproduction as well. This applies to indoor photography, as well as outdoors during the day or night. Further still, this is despite the weaknesses of the E8's snapper, like the fact it consistently introduces a yellow fringe to photos and often underexposes snaps (so does the M8, by the way). In fact, even when the E8 stumbles, it usually is the case that the M8 itself stumbles too, and the two end up with comparable results that are simply inferior for different reasons.

A small saving grace for the One M8 is video capture, where it proves to be the better choice and produces footage that is noticeably more dynamic than the overly-murky clips the One E8 manages. Another advantage the M8 has over the E8 is its Duo camera setup, which allows you to get a bit more creative and capture some fairly decent bokeh photos, along with the M8's superior overall speed in snapping photos.

HTC One with Windows Phone

HTC One with Windows Phone

The depth-sensor allows users to create refocused images as well as 3D effects, and it works quite well, we found in our One M8 review.

HTC is reportedly working on a Windows Phone handset based on the HTC One M8.

According to Engadget, the "One (M8) for Windows" will feature the same front-facing BoomSound speakers as the Android-based M8.

Additionally, the variant will boast a depth-sensor for photo trickery, much like its Google brother.

The new handset looks set to ship with an update to Windows Phone 8.1 too, which will offer support for advanced covers and voice-over LTE technology for US networks.

The last HTC Windows Phone was the HTC 8X, a slick-looking handset that was essentially the One X Android phone in a new body.

Aside from the colour, the device remains the same featuring a 5in Full HD screen, support for 4G LTE and the innovative Duo Camera with a depth sensor allowing users to refocus photos after they are taken.
O2 and Carphone Warehouse have announced that they will exclusive versions of the HTC One M8 smartphone in red and pink colours.
The mobile network O2 will offer the red colour of the flagship Android handset from 4 August, joining the Amber Gold and Metal Grey models. Customers can get the new model on O2's Refresh tariffs with up to 8GB of data.

"Honed from a single piece of aluminium, the HTC One M8 continues to flaunt the attention to detail and innovation that earned the first generation HTC One (M7) a prestigious iF Design Award." said O2.

O2's Refresh tariff means that customers only need to pay for monthly minutes, texts and data once they've had a phone for two years. Alternatively, they can upgrade early by simply paying what's left of that half of the contract.
The HTC One M8 is one of the best smartphones this year but it has strong competition from the LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy S5. Later this year the iPhone 6 is expected to arrive and will take on all these high-end Android devices.

HTC One (M8) pink

HTC One (M8) pink version pictured ahead of release

The HTC One (M8) is a properly pretty phone – one that has a design so sleek that it looks great in just about any color. However, that shouldn’t be an excuse not to offer us more choice and we are glad to report HTC is not using it.
We’ve got a press photos of yet another hue that is going to join the HTC One (M8) palette – Pink. The distinctly feminine color is said to launch this year, but that’s as specific as the info from the source gets. We are even not sure if the pink color will be available before or after the red version we heard about earlier.

Anyway, whenever that happens the total number of available HTC One (M8) colors will be brought to five. The smartphone launched in the more classical Gunmetal grey, Amber gold and Glacial silver versions, while the two new colors will add some more punchiness to its design. We’ve also heard rumors of a blue version coming, but there has been nothing solid on that one just yet.
Would you be picking the HTC One (M8) in any of the new upcoming colors or have you already gone for one of the more traditional paintjobs?
