HTC 64-bit Desire 820 smartphone

HTC 64-bit

Desire 820 Smartphone

It was only yesterday when we were invited by HTC to "save the date" for the company's "IFA Breakfast". Rumors have been swirling that HTC will be bringing forth a 64-bit Android smartphone in time for the annual IFA expo in Berlin. Next, we published the story of Qualcomm's leaked product map that shows its mid-range 64-bit processors are almost ready to start rolling off the fab.

The HTC rumor makes even more sense with this revelation into account, and now the company posted a teaser image on Weibo, which shows the digit "820". It's known that the only HTC products with three-digit names are its Desire series of low and mid-tier phones, which leads us to the conclusion that HTC is possibly preparing a Desire 820 phone based on Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 610 or 615 chips.

Looking at the "8" in its name, the Desire 820 might as well go for the octa-core Snapdragon 615, but that's purely speculative. Besides, the latest phone in the series, the Desire 816, has a quad-core CPU. If HTC wants to keep the price down, it will probably go for the quad-core Snapdragon 610.

HTC is known for its pursuit towards being the first to bring cutting-edge technology to its smartphones. After all, this is the company that made the first consumer Android smartphone, launched the first smartphone with a 1080p display, and experimented with UltraPixel cameras to the dismay of some consumers. If there's one company we'd bet on coming up with the first 64-bit Android phone, it's HTC. We'll see what the future holds on September 4th.

Take a Screenshot on the HTC One

Take a Screenshot

on the HTC One

To take a screenshot on the HTC One, simply press power and the volume down button on the side of the phone together. After a second or two, you’ll see the animation show a screenshot, and you’ll also get a notification that a screenshot was captured. Now you’ll be able to pull it down from the notification bar and share it, edit it, or simply view it. It’s just that simple. We've also provided a video above for visual reference.  This method works on virtually all HTC models.

Phunk Limited Edition HTC One M8

Phunk Limited Edition

 HTC One M8

For its latest limited edition handset variant, HTC has teamed with Singapore art collective Phunk Studio to design a dashing take on the One (M8), which was revealed today.

HTC and Phunk worked together to design the smartphone’s revised exterior, with the primary theme of “Wonderment” driving the result. You can catch a glimpse at the creative process of the two parties in the video below.

Phunk Limited Edition HTC One (M8)  Only 64 units were produced, but it doesn’t sound like they’ll be available for purchase (at least not through traditional means). HTC has yet to divulge full details, but some tech publications have mentioned impending giveaways, so that might be your best bet of trying to snag the device.

Phunk’s involvement comes in advance of an exhibition that will stop in Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore, and is taking place during the studio’s 20th year of existence. The group has previously worked with such corporate heavy-hitters as Nike and Levi’s.

According to HTC, the device signals the beginning of its “Here’s to Creativity” campaign for 2014, following last year’s One mini variant from fashion designer David Koma. Perhaps we’ll see even more slick, nearly-impossible-to-get designs before the year’s through.

HTC One M8 for Windows Dot View Case

How Cortana will work with
the Dot View case

HTC is widely expected to introduce an HTC One M8 variant that runs Windows Phone 8.1 at its Aug. 19 event. The full specs for the HTC One M8 for Windows have leaked.

Nokia has long enjoyed being the top Windows Phone maker. Companies like Samsung and HTC, who have fared very well with their Android smartphones, haven't been able to repeat that kind of success with their Windows Phone-based handsets.

HTC is going to attempt to change that and has scheduled a press event on Aug. 19, where it will unveil the HTC One M8 for Windows. The smartphone is expected to be an exclusive for Verizon Wireless and to go on sale shortly after its introduction. As its name implies, the smartphone will run Windows Phone 8.1 in place of Android 4.4. KitKat.

A new report from WP Central reveals the HTC One M8 for Windows' complete spec list and some new information on the smartphone's features. The device is virtually identical to its Android sibling in terms of specs and hardware, including the premium brushed aluminum case that has been a huge hit with consumers and reviewers.

The HTC One M8 for Windows will reportedly include a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Super LCD3 display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi) and run Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box. It will be powered by a 2.3-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and have 2 GB of RAM. The handset will ship with 32 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128-GB microSD cards.

The camera capabilities of the HTC One M8 for Windows will include an HTC UltraPixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. It will have dual stereo front-facing speakers with HTC BoomSound and pack in a large 2,600 mAh battery.

The report also claims that the HTC Dot View Case for the HTC One M8 will be supported and also have integration with Cortana, the personal assistamt with Windows Phone.

"This case lets you see who's calling, then answer or decline the call without opening it. Just swipe to answer or simply put it to your ear. It also shows you the date, time, weather and reminders. You can also instantly access Cortana by simply swiping down." The display shows through a dot matrix pattern.

Why I ditched the iPhone 5s for an HTC One (M8)

Why I ditched the iPhone 5s for an HTC One (M8)

This review is brought to you by Pocketnow

You might remember that at the launch of the HTC One M8 I wrote an article titled "I was going to switch my iPhone 5s to an HTC One M8, but.." (http://pocketnow.com/2014/03/26/i-was...) and my arguments for avoiding the change were based on the poor camera, its lack of a fingerprint scanner, and the fact that boom sound wasn't everything. Fast forward to today, give me an HTC One M8 for a week and now my iPhone is in a drawer. Since a lot of you asked me why this happened, well watch our video to find out.

HTC One E8 Great Review

HTC One E8

Great Review

Outside of the enhanced new camera, this reviewer feels that the new E8 is lacking the punch that the M8 provides.  HTC's One M8 is among the best-designed phones we've ever seen. It works well, it's powerful, and it's beautiful. Now, in an effort to find a way to make its best phone a little cheaper, HTC is releasing the One E8, a phone with all the trappings of the M8 except for a plastic body and a much lower price tag. The question for HTC: can it change its best phone without changing what makes it special?
